"Attempting to use the characteristics of a professional communicator: accuracy, brevity and conciseness, I'd like to tell you about the Scott and Carl Sloan award of a complete set of flags.

Incidentally Scott, a new father sends his best wishes saying that he regrets not being able to attend.

For the past two years this award has been presented to the on-course worker of the year. However this past year we felt that there was an individual who more nearly met the criteria set forth in the definition of the word "award".

This person has worked a minimum of four events at three different tracks in several different assignments during 2004.

An increasing level of competence and confidence coupled with dedication, dependability, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn have merited this award even though there were others who were also considered.

And so without the aura of political expediency or popularity, we are honored to present this award to Erica Olsen."

Carl and Scott Sloan
To all USARM board and general members,

Larry and I would like to thank you for the honor of Workers of the Year. We are very honored to receive this award for something we love to do. We know that there are a lot of deserving workers that belong to USARM and so we are sharing this with all of you in a sense. This award could not happen without the teamwork and dedication of all the track workers that show up at every race. It is a pleasure for us to work with such a great group of people who have become our extended family. From the bottom of our hearts . . . . THANK YOU!

Jackie and Larry Zeigler

Thank you to all of the USARM members who supported this and it is hoped that you had a GREAT time! USARM can almost double its contribution to Camp Okizu because of YOUR generosity with the raffle prizes

A BIG THANKS to Jim Short to organizing the first USARM training seminar. It was well attended for the first ever effort and those attending came away with new and updated skills. Thank you to all of the USARM members who attended and to those who moderated over the different aspects of each seminar.

While working the Shelby/Green Flag event at Laguna Seca February 13-14,I had the privilege to get several laps around the famed racecourse in a Ferrari 550 Maranello. This is a 12-cylinder 485 hp front-engined car that weighs almost 2 tons, has a 6-speed tranny and costs about $220,000.

Greg Scott who owns a Por-cha GT2 powered by a twin- turbo 6 cylinder engine with 462 hp that costs $181,000 also gave me a tour of ThunderHill with this ceramic-braked bolt of lightning. You may recognize him in the pristine green 240Z that goes like stink. Greg's friend, who owns the 550, traded a 355-f1 Ferrari spyder that I had a ride around Laguna Seca about 3 years ago. These are cars we are fortunate just to see, much less have the experience to get rides in one, much less 3 exotic cars.

What impressed me the most was not the tremendous acceleration all of them possessed, it was the braking!!!!! Exiting t-11 for instance in the 550 in second gear, a jump on the throttle put us up in the 120-130 mph range by the number 4 shut down marker approaching t-2.my heart was in my throat as I'm thinking we may be on a luxurious express route to highway 68!! But no, Greg stabs the brake, downshifts 2 gears, down goes the go pedal and off we go to t-3... it's like this all the way around the track, the tach bouncing at around 7000 rpm at its peak. Then it's up the hill starting at t-6 hurtling towards 8 and I think" no way are we gonna make this one, Greg is just showing off and we're gonna make history"! But no, once again this nearly 2-ton car slows to around 50 and awayyyyyy we go.

This glorious adventure went on for don't know how many laps until the g-forces and the acceleration/braking sequences plus a loose shoulder harness make me happy that my stomach was empty!!!!

And so a dream comes true to be able to take laps around fabulous tracks in wonderful cars driven by a great driver that I call friend !!! None of which would have been possible without the permission of Kati James who was working Control and Jason who took my place very competently as the starter. Memories that will be cherished and never forgotten.

The 2004 Russell Racing School Champion, J. R. Hildebrand, Jr. He had this taken with the USARM crew for the last race of the season in November 2004. (I believe he is 15 or 16 years old, but not sure). He personally came to thank each and every worker (shook hands) at the end of the day Sunday and brought a tray of goodies for our refreshments.
This photo was taken Sunday morning before the day began. He had already won the championship on Saturday. Sunday is Russell's version of an Enduro--there are 3 or 4 groups and each team has one person from each group. So there are 11, 12, 13, 14, . . . teams with 3 or 4 people per determined by a drawing. The finish of the previous one determines the grid for each race. The ultimate winner is the winner of the last race.

He was very polite, and in every way a gentleman. His parents were nice too. The first Russell race of the season will be March 12th and 13th.

This is in response to the question on whether to invert our extinguishers or not.
Thank you for contacting Ansul Incorporated. There are no requirements in reference to inverting Ansul cartridge operated extinguisher every month, annually or anytime. The only requirement to empty Ansul Cartridge Operated Extinguishing System is when the extinguisher is subject to be re-hydrostatically tested.

The Ansul extinguisher manual lists exactly what is required to be done to properly maintain an Ansul extinguisher. If it is not documented in the manual as a step to be performed, then it is not a requirement.

The design and construction of the Ansul cartridge operated extinguishing with a gas tube is designed to break up any packed dry chemical upon pressurization so inverting our extinguishers is not necessary. If some has incorporated inverting the extinguisher as a procedure in their inspection and maintenance program it will not damage the fire extinguisher.

In N.F.P.A. 10 2002 Edition page 10-12 paragraph 6.3.2 is labeled Maintenance. This paragraph describes an examination, which includes mechanical parts, extinguishing agents and expelling means. With an Ansul cartridge operated extinguish the agent, agent tank and all mechanical parts can be inspected monthly and operated annually to ensure its reliability and can be maintained as necessary.

Sincerely,
ANSUL INCORPORATED
