USARM Proficiency Tests

We've added another item to our online cadre of tools to help make sure we all have the skills to do our job out on the corners. There are now proficiency tests that will check your knowledge about working corners at the race track. There is a standard version as well as a motorcycle version. The standard version deals with both car and motorcycle situations and incidents while the motorcycle test covers a more motorcycle specific base of things.

A HUGE thanks goes out to our president Jim Short for his efforts in getting these questions put together. It's been a work in progress over the last year. The board hopes you'll take advantage of this tool as well as ALL of the other material available on this website to widen your knowledge of working corners. You can find the answers to the proficiency tests in the various resources here in our website such as in the manual, the list of handsignals, some training articles and some items more specific to the MotoGP events.

We need to make a couple things clear here. A passing score, 70%, simply means that you have the basic knowledge needed to work as a marshall on a corner. The proficiency tests are not required to work any USARM events. Not having a passing score (or any score at all) doesn't mean that you won't be allowed to work an event. On the flip side of that statement, getting a perfect score on a test does NOT guarantee that you'll work any USARM event either. Of course, this is simply a written test so the knowledge shown needs to be applied in a calm and professional manner to truly be effective. As said above, we consider this a tool. It's a tool for you to determine where you stand with your knowledge and also a tool that gives USARM an idea of where the membership stands in need of training, etc. We also hope that after some time of having these tests, we might also be able to identify if there's certain trends in what the membership might need more training and materials to give them better knowledge in any appropriate areas.

Please feel free to give us feedback about the proficiency tests. Tell us what you think, your likes or dislikes, what you feel would help increase the knowledge of yourself or other marshals, or any other comments, questions, etc. that you might have. You contact the board, the webmaster or a board member individually. The choice is yours. We rely on you to let us know what we can do to help and better serve you. It's YOUR club.

What's that? Oh, how do you take one of these proficiency tests? That's simple, just go to the USARM membership site and login. Once you are logged in, just choose Proficiency Tests from the menu on the left or at the bottom of the page. You'll then be taken to the page to choose which test you'd like to take, either the standard or motorcycle version. After you complete the test your score will be shown to you as well as recorded with your membership information.
