USARM MotoGP Camping Information

Hello MotoGP Campers,

The 2011 MotoGP World Championship, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, is scheduled for July 22-24th, 2011.

Here's all the information you should need about camping at the MotoGP event. Please read the everything here before you contact me with more questions. To those that were here last year welcome back, for those of you that weren’t, welcome to the family.

If you will be camping. After reading this information, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page.

As always we have reserved & brought in the finest frogs from around North America to come join us for the annual croak off at the lovely frog pond at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. They will serenade you throughout the weekend, whether you're setting up or breaking your camp. Of course they will be at their peak when you really need some shuteye after imbibing with your new found friends till late one evening.

Richard "Rosebud" Vlastelica will be your camp host and security director for the weekend. If you have a question, problem, emergency or whatever while in the campground then you need to contact Rosebud or one of his assistants (in the bright reflective lime green SECURITY jackets).

Mickey Housel is the one who'll be coordinating and keeping track of who's camping and what they'll be camping in. You can contact him either via the camping contact page on this website or by sending an email to camping followed by the infamous at sign followed by usarm followed by the semi-infamous dot or . and then org Please remember that this email address is only for questions/comments about camping at the MotoGP event, it's not for any other questions.

Please realize and remember that it's a tight fit to get all 300+ of us into the area in & around the frog pond. Everyone did quite well last year and we're sure we can do the same again this year. Rosebud will be heading up the camping & security crew that will there to help guide you and to make sure that everyone has room to pitch a tent, park their motorhome, RV, Van, Truck or whatever. Please realize that if they ask you to do or NOT to do something, there's a valid reason.

Again this year, wrist bands will be issued to everyone camping at the frog pond. You must have your wristband on to camp. If you lose it, you lose your spot. Last year, and also in other years, we've had spectators try to come in and setup camp, rummage through our things or whatever. That's why we now have our own folks providing security for our area. Using wrist bands at 12:00am is much better to help figure out who can be there and keep out those that don't belong. We know it's a bit of a pain but the wrist bands are necessary.

NO DOGS WILL BE ALLOWED AT THE FROG POND THIS YEAR, NO EXCEPTIONS, DON’T ASK. If you choose to bring your dog you will not be allowed to stay. Sorry, it's a race weekend, not bonding with the canine. Most understand how much like kids they can be to us but there's no exceptions.

A few frog pond rules that must be followed and are absolutely NOT negotiable :

ABSOLUTELY NO OPEN FIRES!! Yes, we do know the difference between a BBQ, Hibachi, etc. and having some fun with that $6 contraption (wonder when it'll melt) that was bought at WalMart. Those 2 foot logs did wonders atop it on the table as a sort of sacrficial gift. C'mon now, REALLY?? There are too many folks in a small area and we just can't allow the risk of the flamin' sacrifical gift getting knocked off the table into a group of tents with folks or gear in them. So, no open fires, period. This is NOT NEGOTIABLE and those that choose not to abide by this rule will find that they are not asked to come back in the future.

DO NOT DRIVE OR PARK ON THE GRASS WITH ANY WHEELED VEHICLE.
DO NOT DISTURB THE CAMP HOSTS (Rangers). Any questions please see Rosebud or one of his security assistants (in the bright reflective lime green SECURITY jackets).
NO LOUD NOISE AFTER 10PM. GENERATORS OFF.
DO NOT CAMP OR PARK INISDE TAPED OFF AREAS. Those areas are off limits for USARM use, no exceptions.

If you want to save tent space for a buddy, that’s ok. The only thing we ask is to know what size tent they are bringing so there is no unused space. After 8 PM Thursday saved spaces may have to be filled in, we’ll just have to see how things go. Tents will have to be back to back front-to-front.

Motor homes, campers and trailers will again have to get to know their neighbors. Depending on how many we get you may not be able to put out your awning. Depending on the number of motor homes/trailers you may have someone parked in front of you. We’ll try not to do that but it may happen.

There is no electricity available at the frog pond. Two water faucets and no dump station. It’s best to fill your tank before you arrive, (there is a place when you come into the park to fill your fresh water and dump).

If you are not working on track the next day you may not camp at the frog pond. In other words, camping Thursday and not working Friday, will not be allowed.

Unless you are working the race, no one will be allowed to park/camp at the frog pond. My sister, brother, aunt, uncle or buddy will have to park/camp somewhere else. For every rule there is an exception (who made that exception to start that?) All exceptions will have to be approved by Ted Kuwada. What he says concerning this event is it, period. Someone has to have the final say at this event and that's Ted. The extra person will have to have a ticket for all three days (I’ll get it tomorrow won’t work.) show it when entering worker camp and they cannot bring an extra vehicle to the frog pond. My brother is driving up on Friday is not acceptable. We are very tight on parking space one more vehicle won’t fit.

Extra vehicles, cars and trucks, will be parked in the same area as last year. Bike parking will be in the same place, along the road facing the grass.

You can come and go as you please as long as you are back in the park by midnight (that's when the gates close). You must have your track pass & vehicle camping pass to get back in. Some in the past have given away their vehicle camping passes to their friends to use during the day, etc. The numbers of each camping pass are recorded so we'll know who's pass Cousin John has when he comes and tries to park at worker camping at 11:00am on Saturday and then asks about transport up to the track. Give away your pass and you give away the chance to come back and work corners again. It's just like not showing up at your assigned station during the day or starting that must have bonfire at camp. Doing so will result in not being invited back and possibly having your credentials taken and then immediately being escorted off the track property. It's happened before and unfortunately it will probably happen again. Quite simply, we've seen all the tricks and games that can be tried and those that choose to do such things will not be asked to join us again in the future. Unfortunately, there's been actions by some in the past that have pushed us to these measures now.

The reality of it is, if you act responsibly and do what's asked, you'll have a great time, meet some outstanding folks and have more fun than should be allowed by law. Don't be too surprised when you form strong friendships with fellow turn marshals from all around the country and the world. We really are like a huge family, welcome to the fold. Remember, if you're not having fun, you're doing something wrong.
