I wanted to thank all of you who (talked me into) or convinced me to make the Coronado trip. I had a great time. For those of you that have thought about going and haven't had the chance . . . . . Take the chance even if it's for 1 time. You have to experience it. Thanks to all you fun people that I got a chance to work with . . . I had a grand time. :)

G'day to all USARM members.
I was the Clerk of Course at the 1993 and 1994 Grand Prix races at Laguna Seca, and again in 1995 at the Superbike event. I had a lot of fun, and am very grateful to the assistance of your members.
I would like to see the 2005 USGP, but don't think that I can spare the time.
I am still Clerk of Course at the Australian Grand Prix, and have been since 1989.
Best Wishes.
Ross Martin. Australia.

Snow is gone and daffodils are up. It's probably too soon to be packing for WSB, but I'm planning. Can't wait to see everyone. (When will apps for WSB go out?)
Ride and drive safely. Smile and remember that wonderful phrase "Bikes on course!"

I've been working corners for about 25 years, mostly at Road America, and have enjoyed every minute of it. Well... maybe not some of the thunderstorms and freezing cold but hey, we're all tough, right? Am retired now and travelling the country in a motorhome (currently in Quartzsite, Arizona). Too late now as I'll be heading back to WI soon to work 63 days at RA, but hope to meet you in the fall or winter of this year to share some good bench racing, work a corner or two, and learn the in's and out's of corner working when the weather is CLEMENT.
One last thing: Why does the "Guestbook" link appear twice on the bottom of each page??
Keep up the good work out there, stay safe, and remember - when a race goes too smoothly, a little KFC at the apex is sure to brighten your day!
Regards,
Karl

Comments : Hello all.
Just wanted to drop a line to say thanks to Jan and the crew at Laguna Seca/WSBK. I had an opportunity to work my first race and loved every minute of it. It was only my 3rd big race and didn't know what to expect, but, Ray,Judy,Don,Bill, and everyone at turn 8a made it a safe and exhilarating experience. I was closer to the action than I ever thought I could get. I will soon be a member of USARM, and am looking forward to becoming more involved. If anyone has any info they feel may be useful to me, please feel free to share. I hope to make it to Sears Point, see you then.

Comments : have been meaning to do this for the longest time:thanking some unsung folks for some fantastic work.
jerry and karen huff-more copies of the GRID in the past six months than I can recall receiving in a couple of years! informative and amusing the same time.
Ted Kuwada: this guy has coordinated more events with so much skill and finesse that we have just assumed everything is gonna be alright and it is! I am awestruck at his dedication and expertise. Even moreso is the fact that we have a guy who absolutely nobody dislikes!
Ken Berri:another unsung hero, board member since I dunno when. Efficient, understated, always a smile and helping all over the place.
The Thunderhill Bunch:a group of enthusiastic folks with enough curiiousity to join USARM, adapt themselves, become professional and competent in a very short period of time. Add to that their dependabilility and love of donuts (raspberry filled, even) and we've got some super family members.
Thanks,
carl

Comments : We've lost Greg Moore. And we've lost Mr. Rodriguez. That's two men gone in one year.
We've got to do better than this. Laguna Seca fixed the corner as best as they could at the top of the Corkscrew. Nobody will again launch into the wall. There are three tire barriers to impede any other car's flight.
Padding of the inside walls wasn't a question until CART decided to order the rear wing of cars on an oval track to include their new speed inhibitor.
This causes such turbulence for the car following that it becomes a track hazard.
(My opinion) Greg lost his front in that turbulence, floored the accellerator in the hope of spinning & staying on track; hit the grass; accellerated into the wall & hit it with his head. Greg Moore is no longer with us.
(My opinion) -- CART should reconsider their ideas on rear wing modifications. Turbulence imposed by "safety devices" is NOT SAFE. CART should consider other methods of slowing the cars.
GIVEN the turbulence imposed by current CART "safety" devices, TWELVE FOOT styrofoam barriers on all walls (including inner walls) should be mandatory.
The designation of 12 foot barriers is arbitrary. Physical calculations of impact speeds etc. need to be done in order to properly decide upon the correct thickness of the barrier.

Comments : Hello, all! I am looking at the end of my fifth year as a USARM official, and it barely seems like it's been one. I owe major gratitude to the organization for several reasons.
Family. You hear this word often in conjunction with this group of yahoos. For me, becoming a course worker helped Stuart and I to realize that the extreme, life-consuming passion for cars and racing we both shared meant we were safe enough with this strong and similar interest to get married. My husband and I now have a son, named Stirling (after you-know-who) who spent many of his days in-utero at Laguna Seca. I'm going to send a picture of him to Mick, and maybe he'll show up in the photo album! Stirling made his first visit to the track (outside the womb) when he was two weeks old. It was there at the Monterey Historics that he met and posed for a photo with his namesake. I encourage anyone with an infant not to be afraid to take your child(ren) into the racing environment if it's something you love. Just be cautious with the important things like hearing and sun protection (as with yourself)! Besides the family element, there is something else I also treasure dearly.
Professionalism. In these past years I have attained a great education about the mechanics of racing events from many different aspects. My forte has always been communication, but I've recently worked a few events in Control. I want to thank you all for the confidence and opportunity to prove to you and to myself that I can take my concern for safety to that greater effect.
Becoming a USARM member has been a definite landmark in my life, and I love that it continues. I can trust that when I need the fix of the smell of racing fuel and the chance to study very closely the racing line of well-known, phenomenal drivers and riders I only need to make a phone call.
Thanks guys, I love you.

Comments : The site looks great. Good job Mick. Most of you don't know me. I'm one of those pesky workers that show up when ever there's a motorcycle race. I've been showing up like this at USARM events since '95 when Mickey told me about the organization. USARM and it's workers are a really great bunch of people, and the food and beer is good too!..as our friendly neighborhood cop found out this last year. I'll miss working WSB this year. Too bad, I really enjoy that event. There is an AFM race that same weekend and when it comes to racing or working, well racing wins.

Comments : Well, I'll do a road test on this guestbook and make sure that it works ok. :) Please feel free to write what you'd like here, within reason. Any extreme profanity, or offending comments may be deleted or edited, at the discretion of the webmaster, me. Other than that, feel free to say anything you want. Where are you from? Do you work at the racetrack? If so, in what capacity?
A little about myself, I've been working corners for over a decade and enjoy it immensely. I started out with the AFM (amateur motorcycle racing club) and not long after I joined USARM. The first couple of years I only worked a few events but by 1992 I was working a lot of the USARM events and have continued to do so since.
One of the things that I really enjoy about USARM is the feeling of family that you get. We aren't a huge group (~. 200 members) but that's also the reason that it's like family. Many of the events that we work for the car clubs require 30 workers or less and it's only during the major events when our worker count goes above the century mark. We've got members from across the US that travel to these events and occasionally some folks from other countries. The camaraderie and teamwork shown at these events is incredible.
In the fall of 1995 I was encouraged to run for the board of USARM and decided to do so. I was elected and am just finishing my first term as a director. My duties have included Secretary/Treasurer as well as Editor of "The Grid" and setting up this web page. I've thought about and I will be running for re-election later this year.
If you've got a desire to check out the action on the inside of the fence, send an email or if you really want to, a letter to the post office box for information on future events. If you don't have experience, that's ok, we can provide on the job training except at major events where the need for experienced workers is required. Have a great off-season and happy holidays!
